LION CUBS V BERWICK, PREVIEW

LEICESTER host Berwick at the Paul Chapman & Sons Arena on Sunday (4pm) in what has now become the first leg of their NDL KO Cup semi-final.

With Saturday’s scheduled meeting at Shielfield Park called off due to heavy rain over recent days and an uncertain forecast for Saturday night, the onus is now on the Lion Cubs to establish a lead in the opener on their own circuit.

However, they will do so without one of their most consistent scorers so far in 2022, Connor Coles, who has a clashing Championship fixture for Scunthorpe.

The Lion Cubs operate rider replacement for Coles, who is placed second in their July averages, so every member of the side is eligible for an additional outing.

Boss Dave Howard said: “We go into this tough Cup semi-final in a positive frame of mind.

“We approached a handful of potential guests for Connor, but all had other racing and personal commitments, so we will operate rider replacement and we’ll be doing all we can to build a lead.”

*LEICESTER’S home Championship fixture against Berwick has now been re-arranged for Sunday July 24, with a 6pm start.

LEICESTER: Dan Thompson, Mickie Simpson, Connor Coles R/R, Tom Spencer, Joe Thompson, Vinnie Foord, Max Perry, Sam Woods (no.8).
BERWICK: Kyle Bickley, Mason Watson, Ace Pijper, Greg Blair, Luke Crang, Kieran Douglas, Ben Rathbone.
